OnBoard Research Corp. The Intellitouch Tuner Reviews 4

I bought this tuning aid at Casa Benelly in The Hague, The Netherlands. The main reason for this purchase was the fact that I read and heard very positive things about this compact instrument. I already had several tuners but this one is really different. The price was quite reasonable compared to other tuning aids I tested, only Hfl. 129,50 ($ 52,50) including a black sturdy case, and Li batteries.

The Intellitouch Tuner (TM) features a very compact housing, to be clipped on the head of a guitar. The guitar may either be an acoustic or an electric instrument. This tiny tuner even may be used on other instruments, as it is triggered by contact vibrations. A bright LCD provides information on the tone detected, and the deviation in upper or downward direction. The display has a built-in light, so it can be read even in a dark environment. Its tuning accuracy is within 1/100 of a semitone, so more than sufficient for the most critical professional user, also since the basic pitch may be easily modified from A 440. As the tone is automatically recognized you donīt have to enter the tone of the string to be tuned. Although this feature is also found on other tuners, this one really worked quite well. I use it on my acoustic classical and flamenco guitars. Particularly for my 12-string guitar it is really convenient, but it works equally well on my 5-string banjo. As a guitarist is spending half his life on tuning, this tiny instrument will help him to get more out of life!

The only minor point I can mention is the limited range of the clamping device. It should at least accomodate thicknesses of one inch.

The tuner itself measures about 75x33x17 mm while the clamping part, mounted via a swiveling construction, measures slightly less. The solid black housing is nicely styled, with pleasantly feeling white control buttons. The construction looks quite rigid and reliable.

Summarizing I must conclude that this tuner is a really helpful accessory for every guitarist as it may help him to shorten the time spent on tuning and to enjoy more (accurate) playing hours. Price is not prohibitive.
